Hero School currently provides courses that are aimed at young adults and high school students. However, the principles that underpin Hero School courses are relevant to individuals at all life stages - therefore new courses for older adults are also planned.

The principle areas of course content for Hero School's current educational programs are:

  • Heroism – exploration of hero mythology and student concepts of heroism
  • Communication & Creativity– developing students' capacity to explore difficult topics through creative play and to express emotions without creating needless conflict
  • Decision Making – training in 8 thinking techniques  to develop and use student capacities for curiosity, emotional intelligence, empowerment, imagination, information processing, morality, open-mindedness and self-interest
  • Self-Awareness – developing the capacity of students to identify how they change and grow as people as a result of life experiences
  • Social Contribution – helping students base to develop social contributions goals that are based on their personal knowledge, skills, values and personality traits while linking their planned community activities to the expected outcomes of those activities
  • Topic Knowledge On Specific Life Challenges – factual content on topic areas relevant to the particular challenges facing the selected student group (e.g. AIDS, addiction, civic participation, crime, education, employment, family, mental health)

 

Courses are delivered by a mixture of workshop and e-learning by local facilitators, who are supported with:

  • facilitator training
  • facilitators manual
  • teaching resources
  • online facilitator support, tools and resources
